High Social Impact

Training and employment for thousands of local workers, including women.

The Story.

Sapucaia is reshaping land use in southern Bahia by transforming degraded cattle pastures into productive, biodiverse forests. Designed around a three-zoned model, the project integrates sustainable timber production, agroforestry (cocoa, coffee, açaí), and ecological restoration. Sapucaia creates a new model for climate-positive development in Brazil’s most fragmented biome, generating over 1.1 million tonnes of carbon removals while supporting local communities and protecting endangered species.

Partner

Sapucaia is developed by The Green Branch and Futuro Florestal. The Green Branch leads carbon finance, certification, and investor engagement, while Futuro Florestal manages operations in the field, from planting and maintenance to nursery partnerships and biodiversity monitoring. Together, they combine global expertise with rooted local implementation.

Environmental impact.

The project restores thousands of hectares with native and non-invasive timber species, ensuring long-term forest resilience. Certified under Verra’s VCS and CCB on gold level, Sapucaia enhances carbon sequestration, boosts biodiversity, and improves ecosystem services. It also plays a key role in reconnecting isolated habitats for endangered species like the Golden-headed Lion Tamarin.

Community Involvement.

Beyond climate and nature goals, Sapucaia is deeply embedded in the social fabric of southern Bahia. The project has already created over 20 local jobs in its pilot phase, with 8,000 more expected as it scales. Through training, benefit-sharing, and partnerships with schools and NGOs, Sapucaia empowers local communities to lead in restoration and land stewardship, generating both economic stability and long-term know-how.

Invest in nature, restore the planet.
